Heather Stanhaus Youngman, MS, CCC-SLP, QOM
Since graduating from Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2003 with her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, Heather has worked with children who have a wide variety of complex medical and communication challenges. She has provided evaluation and treatment services to children ranging in age from toddler to young adult with disorders related to orofacial myology, pediatric feeding and swallowing, receptive and expressive language, social language, motor speech (including apraxia and dysarthria), phonological processing, articulation, voice and resonance, and stuttering. Heather began her career at Pathways Center in Glenview, Il, a non-profit multidisciplinary clinic. She then went on to work in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Heather has supervised many graduate students and provided mentorship to clinicians newer to the field.
Heather’s intensive coursework and continuing education have led her to focus her practice on evaluating and treating children and young adults with orofacial myofunctional disorders and speech sound disorders often associated with previously unrecognized muscle or oral-motor-based dysfunction. Heather believes that a thorough structural-functional assessment is essential to a complete evaluation and that all clients deserve a thoughtful and individualized intervention program with the goal of optimizing their abilities.
Heather values and prioritizes strong partnerships with her clients and their family members, as well as collaboration with medical and dental professionals involved in her clients’ care. Her commitment to excellence in patient care may be seen in the depth and breadth of continuing education opportunities and advanced trainings she has pursued. Heather always seeks to improve, change, and adapt to best meet clients’ needs.
